Election outlook · 6 November 2026
Five Republican-held governor races are called for Democrats: Texas, Ohio, Georgia, Nevada, and Iowa. Alaska's ranked-choice result remains pending.

Campaign positions point to tighter rules in Texas, Ohio, and Georgia. Nevada's incoming governor inherits new restrictions signed by his predecessor. In Iowa, both major-party candidates proposed ending data-center tax breaks; the Republican nominee also backed a moratorium. These are outlook signals, not enacted changes; state posture counts below still reflect current policy. The local register below is refreshed through 6 November 2026: 966 measures are marked in effect, 104 have ended, and 24 voter-approved measures are tracked separately until commencement is verified.

How to read this

Welcoming states offer incentives and a defined power route. Neutral states lack one or both. Restrictive states have an open-ended approval pause or prohibition.

Arrows show the direction of policy over the last 18 months. Tightening means new limits, added obligations or reduced incentives. Loosening means new incentives or a clearer power route. Standard large-load tariffs count as a route.

Hatching marks current state approval holds. Local counts in state panels use the register refreshed 6 November 2026. It contains 966 measures marked in effect; 104 ended entries are excluded. The 24 voter-approved ballot measures are listed separately until commencement is verified. Local counts do not determine the statewide rating.

These are analyst judgments, not numerical scores. State colors summarize operative statewide policy as of 6 November 2026. Election results and campaign positions are shown as outlook signals and are not treated as enacted policy. The source-check date shown for each state profile is retained from its underlying review. Detailed evidence is available in the full 50-state brief.
